16.7.18 VERQUIN: 2/Lieut A MACKINTOSH and 2/Lt W BAVIN joined Battalion.
Albert Mackintosh from Colville Drive in Nottingham served with the 1/6th Battalion from July until October 1918, when he was wounded and returned to England.
William Bavin from Nottingham served with the 1/6th Battalion until he was killed in action on the 29th September 1918.
15.7.18 TRENCHES: Battalion relieved by 1/6th Battn S. STAFFORDSHIRES and moved into Divisional Reserve. Two Companies and HQrs in VERQUIN, two Companies in VAUDRICOURT PARK.

14/7/15: Artillery active against LE HAMEL. 250 rounds of all calibers up to 150mm were fired. In the early morning a medium TM was active against our front line in X22 and X15. Four patrols were out by night and two by day. Enemy was either seen or heard on five occasions.

13/7/18 TRENCHES: 2/Lieut J NEWELL and CB NEWELL joined Battalion.
Cecil Bertram Newell from Maccelsfield was Commissioned in December 1917 and arrived in France in June 1918. He served with the 1/6th Battalion from 13th July 1918 and was still serving at the end of the War. Was awarded the Military Cross.
John Newell from Dungannon in Country Tyrone. Commissioned December 1917. Transfered to the 39th Battalion Machine Gun Corps on 12th September 1918.

9.7.18: Quite day. At 1am a small enemy patrol outside our wire was dispersed. Six patrols were out, two of which were by daylight. Enemy was encountered on two occasions.
10.7.18: Quite day. Two patrols were out by night and one by day.
11.7.18: Quite day. One patrol was out by night and one by day.
12.7.18: A very quite day. Eight patrols were out by night and one by day. Enemy was encountered on these occasions.
13.7.18: Quite day. Four patrols were out by night. Several of the enemy were seen standing to in posts in X15a.
8.7.18: Artillery again active. LE HAMEL was bombarded rather heavily for 1 1/2 hours in the afternoon. Six patrols were out during the night, none of which encountered enemy.

7.7.18: Hostile artillery more active. Left Battn HQ was shelled with about 250 rounds of 150mm. Six patrols were out during the night.

6/7/18: A quite day, except for a little shelling of left subsection in retaliation to a gas operation carried out by the 3rd Division on our left. Two patrols were out during the night.
