Casualty Form – Active Service recording his wounding by a bullet on the 26th May 1915. He was treated in the 1st North Midland Field Ambulance, 8 Casualty Clearing Station and 2 Canadian General Hospital before being discharged to the North Midland Base Depot on the 17th June. He rejoined the 1/6th Battalion on the 29th JuneMay 1915War Diary recording that 4 men and Lieutenant Gilderoy Glossop and 22 other ranks were wounded in the 3 days that the Battalion held the front line trenches.

Ernest would later join the 14th Infantry Base Depot and then the 46th Depot Battalion as an instructor. He was eventually promoted to Company Sergeant Major before being disembodied in February 1919
