90275 Pte Joseph Goodwin

Attested in December 1915 and mobilised in July 1917

Posted to the 2/6th Battalion and was missing in action on the 21st March 1918

Joseph Goodwin, a 35 year old coal miner from Longton in Stoke-on-Trent, attested on the 8th December 1915 and was posted to the Army Reserve because of his reserve occupation.

He was mobilised on the 16th July 1917 and posted to the Notts and Derby Regiment. Joseph arrived at the Base Depot in France on the 5th December 1917 and was posted to the 11th Battalion. However, he joined the 2/6th Battalion ‘in the field’ on 11th December 1917 and was posted to “C” Company.

“Very heavy enemy barrage on front line from 5.0 am to 9.30 am. Enemy attacked at 9.30 am. Battn suffered very heavy casualties”

Joseph was recorded as missing in action during Kaiserschlacht – the German Spring Offensive – on the 21st March 1918.

He left a widow who was entitled to a pension of 13/9 a week.
