On 1st July 1918 – Thomas Greaves is mortally wounded
1/7/18 LE QUESNOY: Capt T GREAVES wounded in action and died of wounds. 2/Lieut W BLOOD wounded in action.
Thomas Greaves from Chesterfield was mortally wounded when his “C” Company HQ, which was in a conservatory at Gorre, was hit by a heavy shell.
William Blood was transferred to Hospital in England and returned to the 1/6th Battalion in December 1918. He was demobilised in April 1919 having originally arrived in France in February 1918.

1.7.18 GORRE SECTION: Hostile artillery fairly active during the morning. Eight patrols out during the night and one by day. Brigadier General PR WOOD CB, CMG retired and took over Command of the Brigade.
