2766/240271 L/CPl Jasper Parkes, London Gazette 26.4.1917

On the 8th March 1917, he was member of a patrol which went for 800 yards along unknown trenches in order to ascertain the exact location of the enemy. The patrol accounted for several Germans, but were compelled by superior numbers to fall back. 2nd Lieut Stubbs and Lance Corporal Parkes covered the withdrawal with great gallantry and coolness, and the patrol reached our lines without loss in spite of several attempts of enemy bombers to rush them.

Jasper Parkes was later killed in action on the 30th May 1917 along with 3 other men of the 1/6th Battalion and they are all buried in Fosse No.10 Communal Cemetery Extension in Sains-en-Gohelle.
