Richard Bertie Yates originally enlisted into the Derbyshire Yeomanry and was transferred to the 1/6th Battalion in reinforcement late 1916/early 1917. He was buried by with a number of Russian soldiers and after the was his body was exhumed and he is no interned in Tournai Communal Cemetery.

Richard was the son of David and Linda Yates of 59 Portland St., Mansfield Woodhouse in Nottinghamshire. He was Born in Clay Cross.
