On this day 5th August 1916

4/5th: A party of 5 Germans attacked our front at the head of No 14 SAP (RIGHT SECTOR). A scuffle ensued during which the enemy dropped a revolver a cap of a bomb [sic], Fire was subsequently opened by one of our Lewis Guns & one of the enemy is believed to have been killed. No casualties were suffered by our part.

5th: A quite day.

10.45pm: Enemy fired about 50 4.2 at No 15 SAP (RIGHT SECTOR), our field batteries replying on the German “BLOCKHOUSE”.Blockhouse trench map

4.8.1916 BAILLEUVAL: Inter Company Competitions in Bayonet fighting and gas helmet drill. Winners, Bayonet fighting “A” Coy; Gas helmet drill, bombers.

4.8.1916 BAILLEUVAL: Relieved 5th Sherwood Foresters in RIGHT SECTOR.

3/4th: Our front line between SAP 14 & 15 (RIGHT SECTOR) shelled by German Field Battery intermittently during night.

4th: A quite day. Battalion relief completed by 11.50pm, 5th Sherwoods going into Brigade Reserve at BELLACOURT & the 7th into Divisional Reserve at BAILLEULVAL.Grant SAP 14 SAP 15
