Sept 8th. Same as yesterday. Nice day again. Lt. Sampson wounded. Heard about N.D. Aeroplanes busy.

John Stephen Sampson was Gazetted 2/Lieutenant in the 6th Battalion on 26th September 1914 from the Officer University Contingent of the Senior Division Officer Training Corps. He arrived in France on the 14th July 1915. He was promoted Lieutenant in August 1915 before transferring to England wounded. He did not serve in France again with the 1/6th Battalion.
2007 Pte. Charles Thomas Whittaker, a 20 year old miner from Alfreton was killed in action on this day and buried in Spoilbank Cemetery. Charles enlisted in June 1913 and served with “G” Clay Cross Company.
The sick and wounded men included:-
1313 Pte. Albert Coleman who suffered from lumbargo and was admitted to 1st NMFA and 46 DRS. He re-joined Battalion on 16.9.15.
