19.10.1916 Trenches: Relieved by 5th Battn and went back into Bde Reserve at BELLACOURT.

9.30am: German field battery fired about 25 rounds into left sector trenches.

11.30am: Our howitzers shelled enemy trenches in front of BLAIREVILLE with effect.

7pm: 5th & 7th Battalions relieved relieved 6th & 8th Battalion in the front line – the latter returning to BAILLEULVAL.

Tom Beswick, a stone quarryman from Peak Dale and a pre-War Territorial in “B” Company  was admitted to the North Midland Field Ambulance, 43rd Casualty Clearing Station and 2nd Canadian General Hosptial suffering from sycosis (inflammation of hair follicles). He was later transferred to England for treatment. Tom returned to France with the 33rd Reinforcement in April 1917.
